Original, one of a kind oil paintings by Floyd Bassett a 76 year-old upstate
New York artist who paints because he loves to paint and he paints what he pleases his eye at the time mostly animals, birds,
flowers, landscapes, but if Floyd knows someone who likes one thing in particular he will paint that and surprise the person
with it. He also enjoys paintings covered bridges and lighthouses.
Until now, his paintings have only been known and shown in upstate New York. There
are several in private collections across the area. Many have
been given to relatives and friends as gifts. Floyd has been painting for over
30 years and is passionate about his
work. He derives a sense of accomplishment
and pride from it and when he sees that someone enjoys what he has done that is what gives him the drive to do more.
All canvases are beautifully framed, named, dated and ready for hanging.
Tree mushrooms or artists conches as they are known to the artists are gathered
by Floyd and his relatives and friends in the Green Mountains of Vermont and the mountainous areas of upstate New York, they
are dried for several months to a year and then painted with an original oil painting and make beautiful gifts or additions
to one’s own art collection. These are absolutely beautiful and painstaking
prepared and painted, they are definitely one-of-a-kind. Floyd actually stumbled on this when someone gave him an old mushroom that that someone had started to carve
something on and he took it home and painted it. The next morning the paint had
disappeared and he was shocked so he painted it again and the same thing happened, the mushroom just sucked all the paint
right up. It took him quite a while to come up with the right technique but once
you see one of these beautiful masterpieces, you will see why the painstaking effort was worth it.
Besides painting, family and friends keep this man young.
